Frequently Asked Questions

How long are in-home lactation consultations?

Home visits usually last around 90-120 minutes. Please let me know if you have any time constraints that we need to be mindful of.

What is the self-pay cost for an in-home lactation consultant?

Singletons: The self-pay cost for an initial lactation consultation is $250. Follow-up consultations are $200. This includes the travel fee, and 1 week of follow up care via calling and secure messaging, as needed.

Twins: The self-pay cost for an initial lactation consultation is $300. Follow-up consultations are $250. This includes the travel fee, and 1 week of follow up care via calling and secure messaging, as needed.

You will be provided with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement, depending on your coverage (this is solely between you and your insurance company; I am not able to contact your insurance directly). To find out if you can be reimbursed for self-pay lactation visits, you can call your insurance and ask what your policy covers for out-of-network lactation consultations.

Please see information directly below for The Lactation Network and insurance-covered visits! I am a big advocate for maternal services being covered by insurance.

What is The Lactation Network?

Empowered Breastfeeding is contracted with The Lactation Network to provide lactation services to eligible families. This will depend on your specific plan and coverage. The Lactation Network accepts many PPO plans, such as:

  • Blue Cross PPO

  • Blue Shield PPO

  • Anthem PPO

  • Cigna PPO

  • Humana PPO plans

  • United Healthcare plans (*telehealth not included)

  • As well as most plans that utilize MultiPlan and PNOA.

(Please note that PNOA and MultiPlan logos will appear alongside other payers on the medical insurance card like Aetna or UHC. If the card includes the PNOA or MultiPlan logos, you maybe eligible)

Check here to see if you’re eligible for lactation visits covered by your insurance.

Note: You may receive an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) from your insurance after your consultation through The Lactation Network. This is NOT a bill. When you get accepted for eligibility through TLN, you will be pre-approved for multiple lactation visits and the bill responsibility becomes solely between your insurance and TLN.

About Travel Fees

There is an additional travel and admin fee for in-home visits that are approved through my direct Lactation Network link, depending on your location (*Please note: the self-pay cost that is not through Lactation Network includes the travel fee).

This fee is $50 for 0-10 miles from SW Austin and $75 for 10-25 miles from SW Austin. This fee will be clearly communicated to you upon scheduling and is collected after the consultation via your preferred method (HSA/FSA, credit, debit, cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle accepted).

My house is messy and I’m in my pajamas!

Good! Love knowing you’re getting rest and not concerning yourself with cleaning for me! Grab some breakfast and water, get in your comfiest clothes, and leave the laundry piles on the floor - I am here for all of it!
